typical workday- looking forward to weekend :-)

Posted by Corinna on May 9, 2008 in Prague

Friday:
Not much happening today, just the usual wait for my pc to work in the Prague network.
I’ve found out what I will be doing (if I don’t complain early enough Wink ):
1. The statements of work for the external employees come in.
2. Receive the mail, save it under a specified name in the specified folder
3. Write to the project manager that you received his request (use template ‘your request is being processed’)
4. Open request in attachment, copy some part above, some parts below, edit date to current one. save.
5. Now step that takes a while, need signatures and approvals from various people -> wait
6. Once its all approved, you enter all data into an excel sheet, you don’t do it once you receive first approval, that you would wipe out the opportunity o loose track or information
7. Go to a certain pc and convert to pdf (theres only one license, so you need to do it right there)
8. Chef signs it, you send off signed copy to vendor
9. When it comes back you punch it, put the original in the right folder, a copy is mailed o the vendor again, and that’s it.
What a lovely work for internship students, and how am I gonna keep motivated?

Bright moment today: during lunch we were sitting outside and Jana tall suggested what to do round Prague, which sight are a must-see, and proposed to take me to Kutna Hora tomorrow.
How lucky I am 

Evening I spend writing the events of the first days up, might go into town later on.

Coming up next is an excursion on Saturday with tall Jana to Kutna Hora (very much looking forward to, will try to learn at least some Czech on the way there, Jana picks me up in her car)
And then on Sunday Tobi comes over till Wednesday!

As I have added some potentially interested people to the mailing list, if youre not, feel free to unsubscribe Wink

Second day-> start to work

Posted by Corinna on May 6, 2008 in Prague

Tuesday:
Picking up Martin to go to work.
Motivated to get started, but computer systems don’t collaborate, so different I cant access anything in Prague, not to mention special Vendor management mailbox.
Went on to raise tickets for helpdesk.
Read through approx 30 company mails and deleted whole spam.
Met guy sitting next to martin, who is a DHL graduate doing his Master degree, and describing his job as ‘window watcher’, not exactly knowing what he is employed for (strange but funny).
Discovered all the drinks available for employees, like hot chocolate, tea, coffee, water (sparkling, cold, nonsparkling) and have kept as a main (and welcome) activity to go get a hot chocolate, pass martins desk, stay for a chat, and return to my desk 7383b (all numbered, in case you don’t find it anymore, all looks the same, photos coming soon, as occasion arises)
Then we (Jana small and Jana tall) went out for dinner, where I had my first typical Czech meal:
Veprova pecene s knedliky a kysele zeli -> roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut ; the roast beef – Yorkshire pudding to the Czech 
To drink I had kofola, which is communist cola, bit bitter, I like that.
In the afternoon there was still the interesting part of the working day: a meeting on the vendor management processes, how statements of work are processed etc. but most important information: vendor management is not only about external people on and offshore but also comprises the hardware/ software provide, arranging telecommunication services, and E-PROCUREMENT for the less valuable commodities Wink ( I hate e-procuremtn as it is one of these ‘management’ terms everybody uses, our former economics prof loved, but nobody really knows whats behind the sceene)
Met martin at 7 to go out for dinner. We had delicious Mexican food down the road, on an outside table only that I was constantly hit by ‘raindrops’ from above was a bit annoying
